ASHLEY THIMOT
Ashley Thimot is a Canadian artist currently residing in Edmonton, Alberta. Born in Bridgewater, Nova Scotia, Ashley was artistic at a very early age by drawing in books and on the baseboards in her mother’s house.
Ashley decided to further her passion by studying fine arts at Mount Allison University in 2003. After a year of study, she chose to work for an undergraduate degree in design, which she received from NSCAD University in 2007.
Ashley then moved across the country to the West and made Edmonton her home in 2012. She worked in the design field until the spring of 2021, when she decided to pursue her dream of being an artist for her career. Since then, Ashley has become a published illustrator, exhibited at art fairs and exhibitions, and acquired gallery representation. She has won awards for her work and is currently working on bodies of work for upcoming solo exhibits at various Albertan public galleries. From July 2024 to August 2025, Ashley taught youth aged 10 - 17 art at a local not-for-profit, where she developed a love for teaching young artists new skills.
Ashley’s work explores painting the seemingly mundane urban landscape found within her neighbourhood. Through thoughtful composition and dramatic lighting, she aims to show the viewer the beauty of her everyday surroundings. Ashley also has an ongoing project entitled the “Your Everyday Project”, where she invites people from all over the world to submit photos of their beautiful home environment for her to paint. Her intention with her painting is that the viewer will reflect upon their own home and community as worthy of consideration.
